The National Education Telecommunications Association (NETA) has nominated WUCF’s Florida Road Trip as a finalist for the 55th Public Media Awards. The Public Media Awards, presented by NETA, honors work in the highest caliber across public media stations in the categories of community engagement, content, education, marketing and communications and overall excellence.
WUCF TV, Central Florida’s PBS station, is honored to be nominated in the social media category for the 2023 awards. The station was recognized for its social media efforts behind the Emmy Award winning show, Florida Road Trip, during Season 8.
“Each year, as a public media organization, we work to positively impact our community through our content, through our engagement and through our actions,” said Jennifer Cook, WUCF executive director. “In the ever-changing world of social media, our team spends countless hours creating content our viewers will enjoy. We’re honored that our social media effort for Florida Road Trip was nominated as it shows that the work we do matters and is making a difference.”
To promote the re-branding of Florida Road Trip, WUCF launched a program branded YouTube Channel and TikTok account. Due to the rise in popularity of vertical videos, WUCF devoted its efforts to recording and producing content, specifically with that orientation in mind. By experimenting with social media trends, content, and techniques on vertical platforms, WUCF successfully found a new audience and targeted a younger demographic. Florida Road Trip reached over 27,000 accounts on Instagram using reels (short-form video) feature.
The 55th Public Media Award winners will be announced at a ceremony on Sunday, September 10, 2023
