ORLANDO, Jan. 9, 2025 — This February, WUCF invites families across Central Florida to celebrate Be My Neighbor Day—a month-long celebration of kindness, community and connection.

The PBS station is hosting  two Family Festivals and Service Events on Feb. 1 and Feb. 22, plus a series of Be My NeighborDay Storytimes throughout Central Florida, providing family-friendly opportunities to give back while making lasting memories with loved ones.

Both family festivals will feature fun-filled Be My Neighbor Day activities, including opportunities to meet Daniel Tiger, the beloved character from Fred Rogers Productions' Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood.

"We are so excited to bring Be My Neighbor Day to our community for the 11th year," said Jennifer Cook, WUCF's Executive Director. "At WUCF, we understand the power of kindness and creating connections that bring people together. Events like these foster a sense of belonging and inspire the next generation to support one another and create a more compassionate, caring world."

Family Festivals and Service Events

The Family Festival and Service Events will offer a variety of meaningful fun for all ages, including yard games, friendship bracelet-making and kindness-themed activities.

On Feb. 1, the event will take place at Hart Memorial Library in Kissimmee from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in partnership with the Children's Advocacy Center of Osceola. Families will participate in a resource kit packing activity, helping to prepare essential items for local families in need.

On Feb. 22, the event moves to Lake Lorna Doone Park in Orlando from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., in partnership with Keep Orlando Beautiful, where attendees will join in a park clean-up activity to beautify the local community.

While both service events are drop-in, so families can attend at any time and stay as long as they like, registration is required at wucf.org/bemyneighborday

Be My Neighbor Day Storytimes

WUCF also is partnering with local libraries and early childhood education spaces throughout Central Florida to host Be My Neighbor Day Storytimes.

Storytimes will feature a special read-aloud story and a kindness activity designed to inspire children and families to practice compassion and empathy.

A list of participating libraries and locations can be found at wucf.org/bemyneighborday

Be My Neighbor Day events are made possible thanks to generous support from several national and local organizations, including PNC Grow Up Great®, Fred Rogers Productions, Elizabeth Morse Genius Foundation, Florida PrePaid, Covering Florida Navigator Program and Window World of Central Florida.
