WUCF TV, Central Florida’s PBS station, is dedicating an entire night of its August fundraising campaign to honoring Mister Rogers and his legacy. WUCF will air Independent Lens: Won’t You Be My Neighbor? and the locally produced and award-winning Mister Rogers in Our Neighborhood on Monday, August 31, beginning at 8 p.m.
Independent Lens: Won’t You Be My Neighbor is an intimate look at America's favorite neighbor: Fred Rogers. The documentary tells the story of a soft-spoken minister, puppeteer, writer and producer whose show was beamed daily into homes across America for more than 30 years. In his beloved television program, "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood," Rogers and his cast of puppets and friends spoke directly to young children about some of life's weightiest issues in a simple, direct fashion.
Viewers can explore the roots of Fred Rogers, right here in Central Florida, in Mister Rogers in Our Neighborhood. Airing on Monday, August 31 at 10:30 p.m., hear from close friends and family to see how Rogers’ legacy lives on today around Orlando.
“In the immortal words of Mister Rogers ‘there’s no person in the whole wide world like you, and I like you just the way you are’ and that’s how WUCF feels about our donors,” said Dr. Phil Hoffman, WUCF executive director. “There is no other place in the world like PBS, and that is because of support from the community. Donations support WUCF’s mission of local storytelling as it invites viewers to invest in quality, educational programming that is accessible to communities across Central Florida.”
WUCF’s 17-day fundraising campaign begins on Friday, August 28 at 9 p.m. WUCF is Central Florida’s community station, and this on-air campaign directly impacts its fiscal year membership revenue goal with private funding making up more than 45 percent of the annual revenue.
