Orlando, FL – WUCF was awarded a $20,000 PBS Elections and Civics: Station Engagement Grant to fund new content focused on Central Florida. The project, titled Arts in Action, will be a multi-platform series exploring Central Florida’s creative community through the lens of civic engagement. WUCF is one of 13 grant recipients, nationwide, selected by PBS to foster community dialogue and highlight stories of local changemakers. "We are incredibly grateful to PBS for shining a spotlight on WUCF’s civic engagement efforts," said Jennifer Cook, WUCF General Manager. "This funding will allow WUCF to celebrate the vibrant Central Florida arts community through our America250 project and spotlight the rich history, art, culture, and traditions that foster understanding, kindness and hope.” Arts in Action is part of a larger, three-year initiative from WUCF called America250 which connects the station's content and engagement efforts and opens community conversations about how Central Florida is addressing the elections in 2024, civic engagement in 2025, and leading up to the semiquincentenniel celebration in July 2026. In addition to the $20,000 content grant from PBS,America250 is supported in part by The Ginsburg Family Foundation. By leveraging local partnerships and national programming, through this series, WUCF will inspire viewers to engage in Central Florida’s arts community and PBS programming as a bridge to understanding, kindness and creativity amid a tense political environment. From PBS: In the midst of a presidential election year, these grants foster connections between national content and local station efforts, to provide communities with a diverse range of perspectives and knowledge. Throughout the following 10 months, grantees will develop and produce content, community engagement programming, and educational experiences that emphasize the importance of creative expression as a means of civic engagement. |
