Our EEOC policy and status is reviewed annually; this is the first full-time staff change since 2002.
WUCF-FM offers internship opportunities for students registered in the Radio-Television Program for the College of Sciences. These opportunities provide training in board operations, production activities, and meet the student's requirement for formal hands-on training. During the past year, we had three student interns for the spring semester and one intern for the fall 2011 semester. WUCF-FM offers a broad level of training as the involvement is greater at our smaller station that is found with larger media operations. All students receive direct supervision and training from experienced broadcast professionals.
During the academic year, WUCF-FM hires work-study students enrolled at UCF. We train and utilize these students for production, board-operations, and engineering positions. During the fall 2010 and spring 2011, WUCF involved four students in these capacities.
In addition, WUCF-FM provides opportunities for volunteers who wish to learn various aspects of radio station operations. Some volunteers are university students and some volunteers are from within the community. During the past year, we had two student volunteers. One student became a board operator and currently helps host a Saturday program. The second student wanted to learn operations activities and helped produce promos. We currently have one volunteer who produces his own show for weekend broadcast. A second volunteer stayed with us for several years and learned her skills at WUCF-FM and has moved on to greater opportunities. As with the students, skilled staff members work closely with, train, and mentor volunteers to the various broadcasting practices, techniques, and operations that are needed to be successful at WUCF-FM or elsewhere in the industry.
